Hercules Moth

Coscinocera hercules

Description:

The Hercules Moth is the largest moth in Australia with a wingspan of up to 27cm.

Habitat:

Hercules Moths occur in tropical Queensland and New Guinea. Their caterpillars feed on the leaves of several rainforest trees, but primarily prefer those of the Bleeding Heart tree (Omalanthus nutans).

Notes:

I found this Male Hercules Moth on a chair in one of the farm sheds.
