Crane Fly

Tipulidae

Description:

A beautiful Crane Fly (Tipulidae, Nematocera, Diptera) from Mt. Makiling, Los Baños, Laguna. Often mistaken for gigantic mosquitoes, they are also known as daddy-long-legs, not to be confused with the arachnids of the same name from the order Opiliones or the family Pholcidae. The larvae of crane flies are known commonly as leatherjackets.

Habitat:

Makiling Trail, Mount Makiling Forest Reserve.
