Thanks Sukanya. I agree with both of you. My earlier posting of a similar giant snail of North Bengal is at www.projectnoah.org/spottings/1788526003.... I've seen at least four types of snails in Sikkim, including the giant variety. I don't know which varieties are edible! (I've eaten them abroad, but it is no, no here!)

I think it is a Giant African Land Snail, Achatina fulica.
