Giant Honey Bee

Apis dorsata

Description:

Striped abdomen not fully covered by the wings.

Habitat:

Mud puddling behind a guest house we had stopped for tea in Madhya Pradesh enroute to Raipur. There were about fifty or more of these insects on the wet patch.

Notes:

I thought only butterflies liked mud puddling; flies/bees too?.
