Domestic Duck

Anas platyrhynchos domesticus

Description:

This duck does not look healthy, but maybe it's just the kind ? I have seen this or a similar duck in other years as well, also with these tumor-like cheeks. So I would like to know two thing: 1) what kind of duck is this ? 2) are the extreem cheeks normal for this kind or is there a (serious) problem with this ducky ?

Habitat:

Small water behind our house

Your duck is a Mallard, not pure but a feral hybrid, basically a mix of a wild Mallard and what we often call farmyard ducks which have been bred over thousands of years as a domesticated variety descended from Mallards.
The puffed up cheeks are probably an indication of a sinus disease which could be treated if it is confirmed by a vet.
