Description:

This wasp is in the Family Scoliidae (Scoliid Wasps). It apparently likes flowers. Elongated abdomen with alternating black and cream colored bands.

Habitat:

Observed in an open area on a constructed pond dam. The flower is Southern Dewberry. This one was photographed at the stork ponds at the Silver Bluff Audubon Center near Jackson (Aiken County), SC.
