Virginia Opossum (with babies)

Didelphis virginiana

Description:

Opossums are cat-sized mammals with a pointed snout, grayish fur, small ears, and a long, scaly tail. It has paws with opposable "thumbs." Males are usually larger and heavier than females. This one has babies in her pouch with their tails curled on the outside.

Habitat:

Caught her climbing into the Old Blush rose to sleep for the day. She stayed everyday until the babies were on their own. Missed her snoring when they left.

No. i have lived in CA and CT where they are darker, but here in TX they seem to be light with just a bit of dark on the back and ears. The males like to sleep on my potting bench. They are a good predator of snakes. I get baby copperheads in the garden.

Lovely!! I had them in California, one was a good friend of my lovely cat and it would share her food with it, but I never saw one white, is it an albino?
