A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
In a crack in a pine tree is a very elaborate spider web. Within the crack are many silk tunnels and the entrance has a many-layered and scooped catch-all sheet. The spider has lived there for many months and is black with tan striped legs (pictures 3-5). She never comes out and is hard to get a glimpse of. Whenever a piece of garbage falls in her mat, she carefully extricates it and dumps it (but not if I'm around). I'll see all of her one of these days I hope!
San Cristobal de Las Casas, 2,200 meters. Along a residencial street.
Maybe an Agelenid or Tree Funnel Web Spider. See Part 2: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/198...
