Lesser adjutant

Leptoptilos javanicus

Description:

These pics are taken from very far away from a moving boat on our way to Kinabatangan River from Sandakan. I think we were entering the river when we saw this magnificent type of stork. A large stork with a bare head and a length of 87–93 cm. The skullcap is paler and the upper plumage is uniformly dark, almost all black. The nearly naked head and neck have a few scattered hair-like feathers. The upper shank or tibia is grey rather than pink. The belly and undertail are white.

Habitat:

Somewhere at the meeting of the sea with the Kinabatangan River.

Notes:

Notice the otters in the water I place a separate spotting for these next.
