Late Fall Polypore

Ischnoderma resinosum

Description:

This fungi is 7-25 centimeters long by 3-15 centimeters wide, dark brown color.It’s skin is spongy, tough, and watery. It is part of the Fomitopsidace family, it’s pores are angular and 4-6 millimeters. They may have a medical use in the future. It is said to be edible when young, but as it ages it becomes cork-like. It is a shelf fungus so it grows out like a shelf.

Habitat:

We found this fungus growing on an old fence near the school.
