Sometimes it is not easy to find a common name. For yours we have one in German! :-)
In these cases we usually use the family name like you did. So, Araneidae will be Araneid Spider or Noctuidae and Noctuid Moth.

Thanks. I'm never quite sure what to write if the species doesn't have it's own common name.

A valuable common name would be for example: Orb-weaver Spider or Araneid Spider.
