Short-finned Pilot Whale

Globicephala macrorhynchus

Description:

Spotted near the horizon while on a Pelagic bird trip near Daytona, FL. The mother and calf were just floating and probably resting until we came upon them. They looked totally black and just the blow hole and dorsal fin out of the water. Very cool.

Habitat:

Deep ocean, mainly warm tropical waters
