Ant Cemetery

Description:

These large yellow ants have cleared a circle around the entrance to their underground nest. In front of the nest was a semicircular band of what looks like a cemetery of dead ants. It is not clear if the dead ants are of the same species that were evacuated from the nest, or ants which had been invading and were killed.

Habitat:

Grassy shrub area along the highway.
