Eastern Garter Snake

Thamnophis sirtalis sirtalis

Description:

About 11 inches long with a long tan/tinted green stripe down the middle of its back. Has stripes running its length down its sides, too. Aside from the stripes, the rest of the snake is a light brown color.

Habitat:

Inhabit the East Coast from Ontario down to the Gulf of Mexico. Prefer woodland areas (like state parks), but will also live in small "islands" of forest in urban communities.
