Brown Cotton Stainer Bug

Dysdercus bimaculatus

Description:

A pale orange-brown Cotton Stainer bug about 1 cm long with black, red and white markings. Family Pyrrhocoridae. This species was found in the same place and on the same night as another species of Cotton Stainer, Dysdercus mimulus (see spotting: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/197...). The Cotton Stainers receive their common name because they can transfer fiber-staining microorganisms to cotton bolls. They can be pests of many species including Hybiscus plants and citrus.

Habitat:

Came to the lights of a store, Axtla de Terrazas near Xilitla, San Luis Potosí, Mexico.
