A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
This turtle with a 9 inch shell surfaced to watch me feed the fish in the canal behind my backyard in Boca Raton, FL. I have seen red-eared sliders and Florida red-bellied cooters in the canal but this does not appear to be one of those two. He has a lush growth of algae on his shell and his nose seems to have a touch of red if you look closely.

Maybe this is a Peninsula Cooter, Pseudemys peninsularis. http://www.wildherps.com/species/P.penin...
