Common Gorse

Ulex europaeus

Description:

Extremely pungent leaves reduced to spines, yellow 'pea' flowers to 1.5cm diameter. Small shrubs to 60cm tall. Harsh looking bush but flowers are delicate 'pea' flowers. Invasive species. It outcompetes native, endemic species and is a fire hazard.

Habitat:

Common along Te Mata Creek, New Zealand
