Eurasian Scops Owl

Otus scops

Description:

A little owl (7-8 inches in lenght) that is known to be notoriously difficult to detect due to it's incredible ability to blend in with the trees it roosts in during day time. The brown/grey mottled plumage allows the scops owl to mimic branches or even the bark of a tree (image 3 and 4).

Habitat:

Spotted in a tree outside of Doha. Undertakes yearly migration (Africa-Europe, spring and Europe-Africa, autumn) where Qatar is a pit stop along the way.
