Description:

Distinctive longwing butterflies with black or dark brown with orange and yellow markings on their wings. Wingspan of 65–90 mm. A lucky spotting as they are native from Mexico to Amazon basin with strays into South Texas.

Habitat:

Spotted nectaring on fiddlewood at the National Butterfly Center in Mission, Texas.
