Megalographa biloba
1 inch. A hairy, brown moth with white, orange, and darker brown markings. It had a Y shaped hump on the shoulders. I shall call it the Rorsach Test moth, What picture do you see in the markings?
It was hiding behind a tuft of grass. It is supposedly nocturnal.
Very nice! Please consider adding this to the Moths f the World mission http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/8841...
Jakubko, do you know anything about baby moths and butterflies aka caterpillars? I uploaded 2 different caterpillar spottings, and need some help.
Lauren- that's funny!
You are in an awesome place for moths and other insects. I'm glad to hear you liked this moth so much.
Thank you all! I'd sworn off taking pictures of invertebrates because I never know what they are, but this moth was so beautiful I had to take some pictures. Friendly as well, it stayed on my finger.
Beautiful! The only member in its genus. Here's my reference link: http://bugguide.net/node/view/57061/bgim...
