Blister Beetle

Description:

Red, orange and black Blister Beetle. About 1.5 cm long. Blister Beetles are often colored in bright reds and oranges as a warning to potential predators, due to their defensive secretion of a blistering agent, cantharidin.

Habitat:

Came to the lights of a store, Axtla de Terrazas near Xilitla, San Luis Potosí, Mexico.
