Meleagris ocellata
Unmistakably a turkey, with iridescent eyed feathers.
These birds were photographed wandering freely around the base of the ruins at Tikal, Guatemala, foraging in the grass for insects and seeds. They were approachable within five feet.
Where I live in the Maya Mts. of western Belize, they are much shyer, seldom seen, usually only at dawn or dusk in dense underbrush.
