Eudynamys scolopaceus
Jet black with ruby red eyes. This one is a male.
I put out food for birds and civet cats. This male Koel has now started coming. It is aggressive and usually takes food for its mate that sits nearby (only coming down to feed once in a while). It is a greedy feeder and I fear it will choke one day. It spreads its wings in a reasonably good approximation of Dracula's flapping black cloak and charges at other birds (bulbuls and babblers) with open mouth. It only seems to be afraid of crows that often drive it away.
Now a second, younger and sleeker male has arrived on the scene and a triangle is developing! Great to watch when jailed at home due to lock -down.

I can't see or hear any difference between the Indian koels and the Australian ones. Both equally handsome and entertaining.
Thank you, Tukup.
Missed this one the first time around. That first shot is great Sukanya. Thanks for sharing.
