Emperor Gum Moth Caterpillars (early instars)

Opodiphthera eucalypti

Description:

These are early instars of the Emperor Gum Moth Caterpillar. They were about 10 mm each with raised orange-yellow tufts of setae posterior to the head area and on the first three abdominal segments.

Habitat:

Spotted on a young gum tree - Eucalyptus ovata .

Notes:

These seem to be slightly older thatn the ones in my previous spotting http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/164... The later instars of this caterpillar are amazing. Family: Saturniidae
