Black-tailed Gnatcatcher

Polioptila melanura

Description:

Slate blue head back and wings. Light colored throat, chest and belly. The bill, legs and tail are dark. Easy to ID by sound that I descibed as a Shhhhhhht sound

Habitat:

Dryer areas of lower western states. They get most of the water from insects and so they can survive desert areas. This one and many more I found here were near plenty of water. Moving through scrubs.
