Leaf Beetle

Chrysomela aeneicollis

Description:

A black Leaf Beetle with yellow markings on the elytra. About 8mm in length. The larvae (last picture) are also black and carry around fecal material on the end of the abdomen. This is kind of a messy beetle, doing a lot of feeding damage as well as leaving a large amount of fecal material on the leaves. The adults tend to eat the edges of the leaves, while the larvae are more like skeletonizers. Family Chrysomelidae.

Habitat:

Mendenhall Glacier National Park, Juneau, Alaska.
