Sturnus vulgaris
a small flock of 6-10 of these birds has been in my yard for the last 2-3 days. They are large, about the size of a cardinal just rounder and plumper. They are eating something in the grass and have a pleasant song. They are not grackles. I see them from dawn through about 9am.
They have a wonderful variety of song, and often have a distinctive wolf call/whistle. Because they are not native to the States, people sometimes turn their noses up at them; but they are very endearing, acrobatic, industrious and enjoyable to watch! :)
