Crowned Woodnymph

Thalurania colombica

Description:

Medium sized hummingbird 10cm (4"). The male shown here can appear as just another dark bird but in the right light the throat and breast shows a brilliant green with a purple-blue belly and crown.

Habitat:

Forest edge on the Caribbean slope near San Miguel in Costa Rica.

Notes:

I watched this bird for quite awhile and every now and then it would catch the light.
