Black Vulture

Coragyps atratus

Description:

This black vulture was spotted dining on a skeleton beside the road. The other vultures at the feast withdrew as my car approached, and this one is ready to take off, as well.

Habitat:

Black vultures are the cleanup crew in Belize, making short work of anything that escapes immediate consumption and has a chance to "mature" into a ripe condition.
