Shield Bug

Unidentified Scutellerini

Description:

Pentatomoidea; Scutelleridae; Scutellerini; Unidentified Scutellerini. I originally thought that these bugs were Chrysocoris stolli, but that species is not present in the Philippines. In https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrysocori...... it is clearly states "Verified records are available from Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, India, Malaysia, Myanmar, Pakistan, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam; literature records from Korea, Sri Lanka, the Philippines and Indonesia are erroneous".

Habitat:

These Shield Bugs were spotted in our front yard on a Jackfruit Tree (Artocarpus heterophyllus). Jackfruit seems to be a favourite of these bugs (at least in this area) as they can often be seen in groups on the underside or singly on the upper surface of the leaves. I have seen them on the underside of banana leaves, but very rarely.

Notes:

Based on the limited information I can find, I suspect that these bugs are, indeed, Chrysocoris stollii and the "literature records" referred to in Wikipedia are considered "erroneous" because they have not yet been verified. So, Unidentified Scutellerini is the best I can come up with.
