The largest animal in the deer family. Large ears and a long snout. This is a massive brown mammal with long legs, standing between 5' - 7' at the shoulder. Pictured here is a cow or female moose and in the last third picture is her calf, last two has both of them. Female Moose can weigh as much as 800 lbs, while a large Bull Moose can weigh up to 1,500 lbs and possess an antler rack that spans up to 6' wide.

Habitat:

Prefer forested wetland areas.

Notes:

Hopefully, people don't get tired of these moose spottings - they really ARE all over Alaska but every one is fun for me. We spotted this girl just as we passed her on the road and stopped just up ahead. As I watched her cross the road, I wondered if her large calf would follow, but it didn't. However, when a car and an RV came down the road and were about to separate her from her baby, she VERY quickly turned and crossed back over.
