Bitter Gourd ~ Desert Melon

Citrullus colocynthis

Description:

Creeping vine with rough, angular stems covered in hairs. The size of the fruit can range from the size of a golf ball to the size of a grapefruit. They start off green with streaks and turn yellow as they dry.

Habitat:

spotted in a coastal desert wadi in Nabq Protected Area

Notes:

Used medicinally by local Bedouin to treat digestive problems, diarrhea, and rheumatism.
