Greek Hellebore

Helleborus cyclophyllus

Description:

Medium tufted, stemless, perennial. Leaves mostly basal, not overwintering, with 5-9, toothed, leaflets, hairy beneath; leaves on flowering scapes smaller, with 3-5 leaflets. Flowers few, pale yellowish-green, bowl-shaped, 40-60 mm; sepals broad.

Habitat:

Woods and thickets and hillslopes, on rather dry soils. Central and South Yugoslavia and the Balkans -not on the islands. Here in mount Chortiatis (Thessaloniki, Greece).

Notes:

Greek name: Ελλέβορος ο κυκλόφυλλος. Greek common names: Σκάρφη, Κάρπη
