Also known as guan-old (Rio Grande do Sul), dusky-legged guan, guan and jacupixuna. Deforestation and indiscriminate hunting dramatically reduced the population of this species.

Southern species of large size, measuring 68-75 centimeters and weighing 1000-1200 grams (SIGRIST, T., 2009). very dark green-bronze color; mantle, neck and chest finely striated white; anegradas legs. The male has a red iris, unlike the female. Species large and noisy. Notable for strange and very strong noise it produces with its wings while flying.

Inhabits secondary forests, secondary forests, plantations and gallery forests (high forest). Lives in southeastern and southern Brazil, Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro to Rio Grande do Sul; Uruguay, Paraguay, Argentina and Bolivia. In Rio de Janeiro is in the mountains, in São Paulo in the Serra do Mar and the coast.

The town of the coordinates (lat: -22.537743, long: -43.228630) that I used for search, is not DUQUE DE CAXIAS, as reports the search map tool of this page, but PETRÓPOLIS, as shown here:
