Long-snouted seahorse

Hippocampus guttulatus

Description:

Species grows to about 20 cm long but most often no more than 12 cm. It has slender elongated body. Color ranges from dark green to different shades of brown to yellow, the body is often speckled with small white dots.

Habitat:

Species likes shallow waters and likes to stay close to Posidonia and eelgrass meadows. Preferes mixed habitat with sandy bottom and rocks with algae too,

Notes:

Like all the seahorses it is male who gives birth to small seahorses. It has a pouch on his belly in with female deposites eggs.
