Spicebush Swallowtail (male)

Papilio troilus

Description:

Black butterfly with iridescent blue coloring on hindwings. White spots along edges of forewings and hindwings. At the inner edge of each hindwing is a yellow-orange spot.

Habitat:

Meadowy clearing at the edge of dense mixed hardwood forest. Nectaring on hoary mountain mint.

These guys can be tricky. I am pretty confident that this beauty is a Spicebush Swallowtail. :-)
