Red-bellied Woodpecker – Female

Melanerpes carolinus

Description:

Mid-sized woodpecker, approximately 9 inches long; black and white barred back; gray face and underparts; slight red coloration on belly just ahead of tail. Gray face and crown; nape of neck red and red at base of bill. (Crown of head red in male).

Habitat:

Feeding at log feeder. Lives in mixed hardwood/pine forest.
