Wedge -tailed Eagle

Aquila audax

Description:

Large brown and black eagle with long wedge-shaped tail. Adult black with rufous or blonde nape and shoulder patch and pale undertail coverts.

Habitat:

Spotted on road kill between Gregory and Burke & Wills Roadhouse in North western Qld.

Notes:

Photo was taken with a telephoto lens while in a moving car so not the best quality.

Thanks Christy, I always have my camera in my lap at the ready whilst travelling in the car. Amazing what you can see on outback roads.

He was huge. When he took off as we drove by the wing span was enormous. They don't get going very fast if they are full of food.
