Description:

Small woodpecker, approximately 6 inches long; back checkered black and white with white on the wings and a white stripe down the center of the back; head has solid black and white stripes. Female has no red color; male has a red patch on the back of the head.

Habitat:

Feeding at log feeder. Lives in mixed hardwood/pine forest.
