Pyrrharctia isabella
The Woolly Bear caterpillar, or Banded Woolly Bear caterpillar is a small, fuzzy, caterpillar. It eats mostly grasses and weeds, like plantains, nettles and dandelions. Its scientific name is Pyrrharctia isabella. It is often found in the fall. When they feed, they often stay on the ground. But sometimes they use trees to feed, especially if they were born within the range of a woodland instead of a pasture.
Found near the edge of the woods. Its range is cities, suburbs and towns to grasslands and prairies to scrub, shrub, bushlands and (almost) everywhere in the country.
