A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Buteo brachyurus Vieillot, 1816
It measures about 35 to 45 cm in length, with females being larger than males.
Light morpho has the tops and sides of the black head in adults and the immature brown, lower white-pure parts; the morpho clear immature plumage, the bottoms are well yellowed.
The dark morph has dark plumage, almost black, with darker secondary than primary. Because of this characteristic, it has very similar to the black vulture silhouette (Coragyps atratus) in flight. Immature morpho dark may show considerable variation in plumage, which can be either mottled white, as completely dark as in adults.
The pattern and number of rods in the tail is also variable in birds Florida - USA, especially in immature and there is evidence that the same may occur in Brazil
It is found from the southern United States (Florida) and Mexico to Argentina and Paraguay, and Brazil. Inhabits fields with trees, forested areas permeated open and urban vegetation. Typically alone and occasionally in pairs. It tends to go unnoticed due to the fact spend most of the day hovering at high altitude.
The town of the coordinates (lat: -22.538488, long: -43.228593) that I used for search, is not DUQUE DE CAXIAS, as reports the search map tool of this page, but PETRÓPOLIS, as shown here:
