American Crocodile

Crocodylus acutus

Habitat:

waters such as mangrove swamps, river mouths, fresh waters, and salt lakes, and can even be found at sea

Notes:

I have photographed and posted photos of this croc at this park before as there seem to be 2 resident ones that are often seen sunning themselves on the banks. But I was lucky to see (as horribly as I felt for the turtle) one of them catch and eat a Red-eared Slider (a gravid female it seems because there was a mass yolks). It caught it from underneath, then swam to shore where it crunched away. The "crack" sound was incredible.
