Spotting

Description:

Tree frog of about 6-7cm body length, green/brown cryptic colouration, with pale underside; granulated skin texture, making it look like a clump of moss. I had no luck ID-ing this guy, so any suggestions welcome. Pictures taken at night.

Habitat:

Tropical rainforest in the Ecuadorian Amazon region. Saw this guy sitting on a branch at about 1.8m above ground in very thick vegetation.

Hi Felix. The frog is from the genus Osteocephalus but without being able to see the venter, it is impossible to differentiate between O. buckleyi, O. cannatellai and O. vilmae. The first two are reported from Napo province. While O.vilmae isn't, it is found in nearby Pastaza so can't be ruled out. Nice pictures. Thanks for sharing. Is your "Animals of the Ecuadorian Amazon" mission still active?
