Banded Tiger Salamander

Ambystoma tigrinum melanostictum

Description:

This is a banded tiger salamander at the Tulsa Aquarium. A subspecies of regular tiger salamanders, they are another close relative of the famous axolotl. Tiger salamanders carry the fungi B. dendrobatidis, or amphibian cytrid fungus, which devastates frog populations. That's kinda sad.

Habitat:

Native to North America.
