Banded Assassin Bug

Pselliopus sp.

Description:

A beautiful if deadly Assassin Bug in bright warning colors of red, black and white. This species is notable for its banded black and white legs and antennae. It also has bright red oscelli. Family Reduviidae.

Habitat:

Forest, Arcotete Park, 10 km north San Cristobal de Las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico.

Notes:

In 2007, Brailovsky published a paper on several new species of Pselliopus from Mexico, all with banded legs like P. cinctus. None of them look like the one from Chiapas, nor do any on the internet, so I think I will leave this one as Pselliopus sp. for now. http://www.scielo.org.mx/pdf/rmbiodiv/v7....
