Anaxyrus [Bufo] americanus
American Toads have swollen parotoid glands and postorbital ridges that are completely separated from the glands. Their backs are covered in warts, with only one or two warts in the largest dark spots on their backs. Pair of toads in amplexus - the male (ca 2 inches) is smaller than the female (ca 3 inches) - having laid/fertilized a string of eggs that are coated with a gelatinous material that swells (image 5). Last image shows old gelatinous tubes after the eggs have hatched.
Shallow pool on floodplain above a permanent creek; deciduous-forested area.
