Golden Oyster Mushrooms

Description:

A rare mushroom to find growing in the wild in the eastern United States even though it is widely cultivated commercially. These mushrooms have bright yellow caps and were growing in a cluster. Flesh, stems, and gills are white. Spores are tan/pink.

Habitat:

Growing on felled trees in a wet, deciduous forest.

This species has many potential medicinal uses. It's a good source of antioxidants. Extracts have also been studied for their antihyperglycemic properties, and have been shown to decrease blood sugar levels in diabetic rats.
