A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Synoeca sp.
Members of families Vespinae and Polistinae, instead of consuming catches directly, chew them and then give them as food for the larvae. Subsequently, the larvae produce a liquid of clear appearance (with high aminoacid content) that serves as food for adults. The exact composition of the liquid varies from species to species, but seems to contribute significantly to the nutrition of adults
Order Hymenoptera, Suborder Apocrita, Family Vespidae, Subfamily Polistinae, Tribe Epiponini, Genus Synoeca
