Description:

A large and mostly terrestrial bird of prey. Standing tall on long legs that are scaled halfway up, this bird is an iconic feature of the Sub Saharan landscape. Often spotted with its 'stomping behaviour' to kill or immobilise prey it features on the coat of arms of South Africa and is the national emblem of the Sudan. Considered threatened.

Habitat:

Sub Saharan savannah and open stretches of Africa following food sources.
