Pluvialis squatarola
Larger plover with medium neck, bill and legs. These begin in winter to look like many shoreline birds. In the spring they transition to a dark color from the face, front of neck to the belly. White lines that go over the eyes and down the side of the neck. The pattern on the upper side also changes to a more distinct dark to light spotting. Crown is paler color.
Marshes, shorelines and sometimes flooded farmlands.
